SCHOOL BANK SCHEME.
A PETITION AT BELMONT. There is strong public feeling in the Belmont district regarding the abandonment by the local school committee, on account of opposition voiced by the headmaster in the name of the teaching staff, of the proposal to open a school branch of the Auckland Savings Bank, as in the case of other suburban schools, for the encouragement of thrift on the part of the scholars. A petition is now being signed by parents, addressed to the school committee, asking it to convene a public meeting of householders to discuss the position, seeing that the original movement by the committee in the matter originated from a resolution passed by the statutory annual meeting.
