GENERAL ELECTION.
PRIME MINISTER OPPOSED. LABOUR CANDIDATE CHOSEN. [by telegraph.—press association.] DARGAVILLE, Wednesday. Mr. James G. Barclay, farmer, of Pukehuia, has been officially selected to stand in the Labour interests against the Prime Minister, Mr. Coatcs, for the Kaipara seat at the general election. Mr. Barclay is a director of the Northern Wairoa Co-operative Dairy Company, a member of the Hobson Electric-Power Board and president of the Kaipara branch of the Labour Party. THE MARSDEN SEAT. FOUR PARTIES IN THE FIELD. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. J WHANGAREI, Wednesday. Present appearances point to there being four candidates for the Marsden seat at the general election. In addition to Mr. W. Jones, tho sitting Reform member, Mr. A. J. Murdoch will contest the seat in the,,interests of the United Party, and Mr. A H. Curtis, of .Whangarei, has advised that he will stand as- an independent. The representative of Labour has not yet been officially announced, but it is understood Mr. W. H. Chetham, farmer, of One Tree Point, will be the candidate. CENTRAL OTAGO CONTEST. TWO REFORM NOMINEES. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, Wednesday. Mr. J. Ritchie, chairman of the Vincent County Council, has acceded to requests to stand for the Central Otago seat in. the Reform interests. As the candidature of Mr. Charles Todd has also been announced for this seat, a ballot will be necessary to decide which candidate will officially bear the Reform banner.
