TAKAPUNA BOROUGH.
CABARET LICENCE RESISTED.
The Takapnna Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Williamson, presiding.
Objections were offered by the Takapuna branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union and the Milford Baptist Church to the granting of a licence for the proposed cabaret at Milford Beach. The secretary of the union also suggested in the event of a licence being granted, the use of alcoholic liquors on the premisesSor grounds should be prohibited. It was resolveH to reply that the request would he considered when settling the conditions of the cabaret licence.
Advice was received from the borough solicitor that the £2OOO required for the completion of the Inga Road bridge and road, Wairau Creek, on the future main coastal outlet, cannot be raised without authority under the Government Eoans Board Act, unless the consent of the Gov-ernor-General in Council is obtained. Consideration of the steps to be taken was deferred.
Objection was raised by two owners of property at the foot of Sanders Avenue to the proposal for the erection there of a building for the newly-formed Takapuna Snrf and Life-saving Club. For this reason the council decided that it could not give the necessary permission. Instructions were given that persons who have not complied with notices to do work affecting the drainage of their properties should be prosecuted.
Advice was received from the Post and Telegraph Department that a telephonte call office cannot be erected at Feaver's corner, Bayswater, as requested.
The tender of Triner and Roberts at £43 lis was accepted for the installation of electric light in the council chambers and fire station.
Misgivings were expressed by the Takapuna Ratepayers' and Residents' Association as to the fate of the various road proposals shortly to be submitted to a poll, unless a definite pledge was given on the voting-paper that _ the sums allocated to each work will not he diverted from that work. The council resolved to point out in reply that the amounts allocated to particular works will be shown on the ballot-paper and that consequently any diversion of moneys voted for would be unlawful.
