POLICE COURT NEWS.
FIREMAN ADMITS ASSAULT. LARGE STONE AS WEAPON. \ A cuarrel between two iiremen resuited in the appearance of William Bruce, aged 26, in the Police Court yesterday, charged with assaulting Kurt Bjorkbon. Accused pleaded guilty. Chief-Detective Hammond said accused visited a house to interview Bjorkbon with the object of holding a "keg party." There was an altercation at the door and accused hit Bjorkbon on the head with a large stone. Bjorkbon received head injuries and had to go to the hospital. The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, said that, as the costs were heavy, he would not impose a fine. Bruce was ordered to pay £3 hospital expenses, £2 witnesses' expenses, and 10s taxi-cab hire, in default 14 days' imprisonment. Charges of drunkenness' and ordering a taxi-cab when he had no money with which to pay his fare, were admitted by William James Shaw. He had incurred a debt of 8s by fraud through ordering the taxi. On the charge of drunkenness, Shaw was fined ss, and on the charge of fraud 10s, while he was ordered to pay 8s to the taxi-driver. Pleading guilty to the the ft of provisions valued at £l, the property of the Union Steam Ship Company, Joseph Bridgman, aged 32. a fireman ori the Maunganui, was fined £2, in default a week's imprisonment.
