CHURCH FOR GORDONTON.
DISPUTE OVER SITE ENDED. SELECTION OF CENTRAL AREA. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. J HAMILTON, Tuesday. The adherents of the Church of England ac. Gordonton have composed their differ-' ences regarding the site for a church in the settlement, and an early start* is to be made with the erection of the building. For years the project has been held up owing to lack of unanimity regarding the site. Two areas were offered, known as the central and the Drummond sites, respectively. Bishop Cherrington supported the Drummond site. Dean Barnett then took a postal ballot, which disclosed a majority in favour of the central site. A deadlock ensued, but recently a conference was held, and the principal advocate of the Drummond site withdrew opposition to the central site. - The bishop then reversed his decision, and the central site was decided on. This area the church have decided to purchase and hand over to the parish free of charge. About £SOO has been subscribed for the building, and an effort is to be made to have the church built before Christinas.
