MOTOR TRACK RECORD.
RACING AT BROOKLANDS. NEW TIME FOR 25 MILES. Australian Press Association—United Service (Received May 29, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. May 2R. On the Brooklands motor track Mr. Have Don, who started off scratch in a Sunbeam car, won the 25 miles Gold Star Handicap race. His average speed was 123.36 miles an hour, a Brooklands record. He also broke the late Mr. Parry Thomas' lap record, with a speed of 131.76 miles an hour.
Mr. Kaye Don is one of the most consistent performers on the Brooklands track, but until last year most of his racing had been done in the low-powered classes. He still holds the 100 miles record for five horse-power cycle cars, which he established on Brooklands in 1926. His speed averaged 62J miles an hour. The three hours' record of 61.9 miles an hour with a five horse-power car also stands to Mr. Don's credit. Since he commenced driving a large 2000 cubic centimetre Sunbeam he has raised several class records. Early in April he raised the 100 miles international 2000 c.c. class record to' 113J? miles an hour. The previous record of 109J, miles had been held by a French car.
Although Mr. Don's speed of 128.36 miles an hour in the latest 25 miles race is a Brooklands record it does not eclipse international performances. In 1926 an American driver, L. Duray, averaged 136 miles an hour for 25 miles. Mr. Don's new lap record of 131.76 miles an hour is just two miles an hour better than that created with a Levland car in 1925 by the late Mr. Parry Thomas.
