OBITUARY.

| MB. MICHAEL O'CONNOR. Mr. Michael O'Connor, whose death has occurred at the ago of 67 years, was prominently associated for many years with the timber industry in the Auckland province. Born in County Kerry, Ireland, ho camo to New Zealand in 1879 and was employed by the late Mr. Eichard Monk, then managing director of the Union Sash and Door Company, as timber measurer. The late Mr. O'Connor worked for the company at Tairua, Mercury Bay and Aratapu. A.t Mercury Bay he taught at a night school, his services in this respect being highly valued in a period when educational facilities were far from liberal. Ho was latei associated with the Kauri Timber Company and then with the late Mr. James McFarlane as manager of his * extensive businesses at Gumtown, controlling a grocery, gum-buying agency, hotel, bakery and butchery and the local post office. Upon the death of Mr. McFarlatu in 1892 Mr. O'Connor acquired his interests. For a number of years and np to the time of his death Mr. O'Connoi was a director of the National Timbei Company, for which ho once managed the mill at Ngongotaha.. MR. CHARLES DAVIES. The death has occurred, after an illness of six weeks, of an old Albertland settler, Mr. Charles Davies, aged 88, of 8, Halston Road, Mount Eden. Born in Birmingham. England, Mr. Davies married and came to New Zealand as ' young man. He built a general sto.t at Maungaturoto and served the many requirements of the settlers for ovet thirty years. He afterwards gave up ni» business and commenced droving shecf and cattle on a large scale. He brougm the first batch of cattle overland fioi* Gisborne to Auckland, aijd drove 4 mob of cattle from Whangarei Hawke's Bay. Mr. Davies, who has live* in retirement for the last twenty was married twice, and is survived his second wife, Mrs. Aida Davies.
