OLD SCHOOL BURNED.
" BLESSING IN DISGUISE." BUILDING AT PICTON. LOSS OF WAR MEMORIAL. [BY TELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.] BLENHEIM. Friday. The main primary school at Picton was destroyed by fire at an early hour this morning together with the contents. The building, which was erected 50 years ago, comprised nine rooms. The school war memorial roll of honour of ex-pupils who served in the Great War, was destroyed. A detached infant school was not damaged. Picton has been agitating for very many years for a new school in view of the age and unsuitability of the old structure. The fire is, therefore, regarded by residents as a timely ii somewhat expensive solution of the long-standing trouble, and a blessing in disguise.
