NEW RIVER BOARD.
PROPOSAL FOR KAIPARA. The district Public Works engineer, Mr. L. B. Campbell, will sit as a commission at Helensville on Monday to inquire into tho proposed constitution of the Kaipara River District. In accordance with the procedure provided by the River Boards Act a petition has been /orwarded by the residents of the district to the Government, asking that a River Board should be set up. Tho commission now formally set np by the Government to take evidence and hear any objections will make a report. Tho work of the proposed board will be to take safeguards against and give relief in cases of flooding, to undertake necessary drainage works, and when required to carry out dredging, etc. The board will be to levy rates necessary to cover expenditure. The boundaries of tho river district, which will comprise tho land lying to the south of Helensville and toward the mouth of the Kaipara River, will bo fixed by the commission.
