FOREIGN BID FOR LAND. OFFER TO SULTAN OF JAHORE. Australian Press Association—United Service (Received May 15, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. May 14. In the House of Commons to-day the Secretary of State for the Dominions, Mr. L. S. Amery, was asked if ho knew whether a foreign Power had purchased land within gunshot of the Singapore naval base. In reply, he said he had seen a statement to the effect that foreign companies had offered to buy from the Sultan of Jahore a leased island within the settlement. Ho was inquiring into tho matter.
