"SUN CURE" NOT APPROVED
ATTITUDE OF DR. VALINTINE. OFFER OF £3OOO DECLINED. [Br TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NAPIER, Tuesday. When the offer by a Hawke's Bay resident of £3OOO to convert the roof of one of the wards at the Napier Hospital •* into a solarium was brought to the notica of Dr. T. H. A. Yalintine, Director-Gen-eral of Health, by the medical superintendent at Napier, Dr. J. Allen Berry, Dr. Valintine declined to approve tha scheme.
At the board meeting yesterday Dr. Berry referred to Dr. Valintine's attitude, which, he thought, might be reasonable on the ground of economy if there had not been an offer to provide funds required. But under the circumstances he could not understand it.
"Dr. Valintine is of the opinion," Dr. Berry said, "that this is an American innovation. It is not. The sun cure is tho work of great British scientists. It is not a fad, but is work carried on on a scientific basis."
One member did not see why Dr. Valintine should over-ride the benevolence of the people and the recommendation of the medical superintendent.
