COMFORT ON TRAINS.
THIRD-CLASS SLEEPERS. BRITISH POLITICIAN'S PLAN. Providing for sleeping accommodation on night journeys in third-class railway carriages, a bill was lately introduced into the British House of Commons by Colonel Applin. The bill proposes that every train on which first-class sleeping accommodation is provided shall have at least 20 per cent, of third-class compartments fitted with lying-down accommodation for not more than four persons in each compartment. It is suggested that the charge should be 5s in addition to the ordinary fare, and that the sleeper should not be disturbed for tho collection of tickets between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
