TASMANIAN BUDGET.
NATIONAL DEBT £24,000,000. BURDEN ON FEW RATEPAYERS. HOBART. April 27. The Premier, Mr. J. A. Lyons, in delivering the Budget, said that Tasmania had a national debt of £24,000.000. The interest bill was £1,000.000 annually and there were less than 45,000 potential ratepayers to foot the bill. He promised to reduce the number of members of the Assembly to 25 and of the Legislative Council to 15.
