PROTECTION FROM FIRE.
OIL COMPANIES' POSITION. COMPLAINT BY BOARD. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Friday. At to-day's meeting of the Wellington Fire Board, the question of oil fires was briefly considered. It was stated that big oil companies operating in the Dominion carried no local insurances on their stocks, although they were probably insured from well to store elsewhere. As a result, these companies were not contributing to the board's funds, although they were enjoying the protection of the board's services. This, it was said, was one of the matters under consideration for future legislation. It was stated that recommendations made nearly a year ago at the Fire Boards' conference had been held up by the inaction of the Department of Internal Affairs. As a result the fire regulations throughout the Dominion could not be completed. It was therefore decided to approach the department with a view to reaching finality.
