The combined traffic bridge on the Upper Waitaki River subsided suddenly yesterday when a train, bound from Hnkataramea to Kurow, was crossing it. The train consisted of 14 trucks loaded with stock. , One of the piles gave way under the engine, with the result that part of the bridge sank 2ft. on one side, but the beams held and the train got over.
