As one approaches Ashburton, going south from Christchurch. a larg? block of red brick buildings is to be seen standing close beside the road and railway line. These are the new works of the Southern Cross Glass Company of N.Z., Ltd., erected at a cost of some thousands of pounds. Hero, as far as wo know, will be tho only sheot glass works in Australasia, but the Comjwny, in addition to making sheet glass, proposes to manufacture bottles of all descriptions and many kinds of fine hollow glassware. v

On reading the prospectus it will be seen that the capital of this enterprising Compnny is £250.000, divided into 250.000 shares o£ £1 each. Approximately £55.000 has already been subscribed for and allotted by the directors, and which have been called up to only 103 per share. One hundred and five thousand shaves are to be held in reserve for future allotment if required. Now, however, 75,000 fihares are available for public subscription in parcels of not less than 20 shares, payable as follown:—ss per share on application and 5s per sharo on allotment, and the balance in call# not exceeding 2s (id per share at intervals of not less than one month Applications for shares should be made to the Secretary, Southern Cross Glass Company of N.Z., Ltd., Burnett Street, _ Ashburton.
