NEWMARKET TRAFFIC PROPOSALS

Sir, —I read a number of letters in the Herald of April 23 strongly in favour of the Osborne Street scheme for relieving the congestion in Broadway. One writer says he has not seen any chance of a death-trap anywhere in connection with it. I would refer him to the intersection of Khyber Pass and Broadway, and would suggest that a most dangerous position would be created there, especially (it night. It would not be a matter of sending for the ambulance as one would have to be kept quite handy in Newmarket. It seems to me that most of the congestion that we hear so much about is caused more by the position of the tram stop than anything else. It never should have been there. Personally, I don't want it shifted, because as a pedestrian it is like an oasis in tlje desert to me. The fast pace allowed is the cause pf 50 few using the other route. I have seen a motor-cycle come down t'ie main road at night at not less than 50 miles an hour, and enter Newmarket at the same speed. These are things that should ba put down - A.B.
