TAKAPUNA COUNCIL.

SHOP AREAS TO BE DEFINED. CUP FOR GRAMMAR SCHOOL. The Takapuna Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Williamson, presiding. After a discussion in which the question of town-planning arose, it was resolved that the council should enter into the matter of defining shop areas within the borough.

On receipt of legal advice that the street loans poll could be proceeded with without waiting for the linal signature of the new valuation roll, instructions were given that steps should be taken to submit the proposals to the ratepayers. An indication of the revenue accruing from the petrol tax was received from the Main Highways Board in an intimation that £ll2 was available as Takapuna's proportion of the collections to March 31. It was resolved, on the motion of the Mayor, that a cup costing £lO 10s should bo presented to the Takapuna Grammar School as a sports trophy lor annual competition by the girl scholars. A proposal was received from the Devonport Borough Council that the northern part ol Devonport should be drained into the Takapuna outfall sewer. The engineers of the two boroughs are to confer on the subject. Advice was received from the North Shore Transport Company that the cash fare of 3d for the section, Milford to the Strand, would in future also rule on the reverse journey. The Telegraph Department will bo asked to reconsider its decision not to instal a telephone cabinet opposite Feaver's Store, as Bavswater has at present no public telephone facilities. It was decided that a firebell should bo erected in the same vicinity. The attention of No. 2 Licensing Authority is to be drawn to overcrowding on Brown's Bay buses. Authority was given for placing a wreath costing £5 5s on the Auckland cenotaph on Anzac Day. The council declined an - application for an annual donation to the funds of the Seddon Memorial Technical College for the improvement of apparatus. A donation of £2 2s was made to the Workers' Educational Association.

An application was made by the newlyformed Takapuna Surf and Life-saving Club for an area of 20ft. by 12ft. at the foot of Sanders Avenue, on which to erect a club shed. It was decided to obtain the views of the residents in the locality. An offer by Mr. h. McGann, of 431s acres of O'Neill's Block, Belmont, between the main road and Rangitoto Channel, at £9500, was declined. The borough engineer, replying to a question, said tho rubbish destructor '.night, be expected to be ready for operation in about ten weeks. Tt was decided to initiate overtures for a lease of land in King Edward Avenue, Bayswater, with a view to subleasing to football clubs.
