WORK OF ASSOCIATION. INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP- ■■ • ■» JBY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] PAPAHOA, Monday. The annual meeting of the Paparoa Settlers' Telephone Association' was held on Saturday, Mr. W. R. Beits presiding. The attendance showed a marked interest, in the association's activities.
The chairman said during the year £IOO had been repaid, and a further £IOO authorised in reduction of the mortgage on the exchange office and dwelling. This ■would leave only £SO owing on the property.
A separate line from the doctor's residence to the hospital was nearly completed, and this should result in more efficient working. Sunday and holiday hours had been instituted and bad proved a great convenience. The sum of £SO had been written off the land and buildings account for depreciation, and £lO off the plant account. The treasurer's statement showed an excess of assets over liabilities of £1412 lis Id; maintenance of lines, etc., £46 12s; salaries of exchange officers, £380; secretary, £SO; committee, mileage, £ll 6s; levy on members, £4B 7s; present overdraft reduced to £199. There had been a slight increase in membership. The new committee was elected as follows:—Messrs. H. H. Sutherland, chairman ; J. E. Hill, G. Skinner, H. Cliff, B. Evans, T. Birtless and O. C. Hames; auditor, Mr. E. G. Aickin.
