NOTES FROM ROTORUA.
UTUHINA STREAM BRIDGE. COMPLETION BY GOVERNMENT. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] ROTORUA, Friday. The Public Works Department has determined the contract for the building of the bridge over the Utuhina Stream, and will complete the work itself. The work on the bridge has been held up for some months, because no suitable foundation for the piles could be found. A letter containing this information was received by the Rotorua Borough Council from the department's office at Tauranga at its meeting this week. The Main Highways Board wrote asking the council for a schedule of the work it intended to carry />ut on the Huno Gorge Road. It said tho Borough Council was not entitled to receive a subsidy for the unemployed, in addition to the Main Highways Board's subsidy. Mr. A. E. Lovell, passenger agent, New Zealand Railways, wrote stating that it was proposed to run special farmers' trains in connection with the Winter Show in tho Waikato, and to issue special tickets from Hamilton to Rotorua in connection with the show. A letter was received from the secretary of the Town Band asking for financial help to retain the services of the bandmaster. It was agreed to vote the sum of £SO year. <.
