The Easter athletic carnival of th« Bay of Plenty Sports Club was held on the Whakatune Domain yesterday and attracted an .attendance of over 2000 people. The weather was dull and a few light showers fell. The special train from Tauranga brought a fair number of patrons for the sports mid there was a good attendance of people from Opotiki. _ There were about 200 motor-cars lined up in the Domain and the area, presented an animated appearance.* The committee had nllotted £164 as prize* money, with the result that competitors were attracted from distant parts, so that big fields faced the starter in every event. The public had the pleasure of witnessing remarkably keen and close contests. The big event of the day, the Whakatane Gift Handicap. was won by R. Ainslay after a strenuous tussle.
