SNEAK THIEF ARRESTED.

ASSAULTED TWO CONSTABLES TERM OF IMPRISONMENT. Sentence of one month's imprisonment Was passed on Charles O'Connor, aged 27. charged in the Police Court on Saturday •with the theft of three pairs of trousers from a shop-front in Karangahape Road cn Thursday evening, and with assaulting two policemen. It was stated accused had been seen by Constable Ross, who was in plain clothes, to pick up a bundle containing three pair 3 of trousers outside a shop. Two pairs fell on the footpath, but O'Connor pushed the third inside bis coat and walked across ' the street. Constable Ross followed him and, when he revealed his identity, the constable was struck on the chin by accused. Another policeman came on the scene later, and in an endeavour to arrest accused he was struck on the face. Tho officer had to throw O'Connor and handcuff him. On being put into a taxi accused kicked the policeman. O'Connor said drink was the cause of the lapse. Senior-Sergeant Cumtnings: This man is ft. sneak thief and his reputation is unsavoury. Ho has been in Court several Ttimes before. There is a good deal of sneak-thievinc going on in this city. The magistrate, Mr. E. G. Cutten, senfenced accused to one month's imprisonment on each charge, the bunts to be concurrent.
