UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT. BOXING, CRICKET AND TENNIS. SUCCESS OF AUCKLANDERS.
[BT TELEGKAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] WELLINGTON, Sunday The annual tournament of the four university colleges of New Zealand commenced here yesterday. The boxing finals resulted :—Bantamweight. V. C. Rickard (Auckland) beat McAlevey (Otago); feather-weight, Ferguson (Otago)- beat Dick (Canterbury); light-weight, Mayhill (Auckland) beat Chester (Canterbury); welter-weight, Richardson (Victoria) beat Jenkin (Auckland); middle-weight, Allan (Otago) beat Moorhouse (Auckland); Leckio (Otago) beat Frear (Auckland). Otago won the boxing shield. The scores in the opening of the cricket match between Auckland and Victoria University are:— Auckland.—First innings: S. Godtey, b Tripe, 3; R. Stewart,' c Vietmeyer, b Hollings, 7; S. Hay, c Leys, b Williams, 17; S. Wilson, b Tripe, 15; Schnauer, run out, 101; McDougall, b Tripe, 69; Bush, Ibw, b Leys, 38; Wilson, run out, 0; Lunri, b Tripe, 50; Hudson, b Tripe, 0; McDougall, not out, 0; extras, 19; total, 301. Bowling analysis: Tripe took five wickets for 50 runs, Greig none for 40, Leys one for 19. Williams one for 39, A. Hollings one for 61, Osborn none for 17, Baillie none for 14, Vietmeyer none for 42.
Victoria College has lost seven wickets for 277 runs.
In the inter-varsity rowing event the Victoria College crew beat the Auckland University crew by two lengths.
