AKA AKA DRAINAGE.
LOAN PROPOSAL ABANDONED. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUKEKOHE. Thursday. The Aka Aka Drainage Board lias abandoned the proposal to borrow £7BOO for further main drain construction above the Aka Aka cheese factory. A petition was received from 44 ratepayers objecting to the proposal on the grounds that no ratepayer would receive sufficient benefit to warrant the extra rate involved, and some ratepayers would receive no benefit at all. The petitioners comprised a sufficient proportion of the ratepayers to negative the proposal at a poll. In compliance with requests received, the board is taking steps to have the silt in the eastern, Arrowville, and Mawhitiwhiti drains cleaned out, and McCarthy s drain widened and deepened.
