A LONG LAND LEASE.

ANNUAL RENT OF SIXPENCE.

A land lease, covering a period of 2999 years, at an annual rental of 6d, was referred to at a recent meeting of the Woking Urban District Council. It was stated that a piece of land,, which a resident has agreed to throw into the highway for an improvement at Horsell, Surrey, is held under a lease granted in the reign of James 1., and dated March 29, 1610, for a peroid of 2999 years at a yearly rental of 6d. Tho solicitors for the owner stated that no rent had been paid, and their client did not know the property was leasehold until he paid off -the mortgage recently. A deed of enlargement, converting the long term of years into a fee simple in 1931 is to be executed, so that the land can bo thrown into the highway and the improvement carried out.
