CARE OF ANIMALS.
Sir, —I think something should be dona to improve the conditions of animals detained in the Auckland Railway Station. If they must be kept there for Jong periods at a time surely they are entitled to a few "creature comforts." There does not appear to be adequate or reasonably humane provision made for dogs. I noticed one the other day tied up in an open yard on a chain not more than 2ft. long. The rain Woo beating down upon the dog and the leash was not of sufficient length to allow it to seek shelter if there was any. Standing in,a puddle of wa'ter is not appreciated by dogs any more than by .ourselves. The dog's pitiful liowls provoked the attention of nearly everyone on the station. I should imagine that owners who value or care for their pets should object to these conditions. The best way to" encourage "animal welfare" is. after a-]!, by the example set by our public organisations. Animal Welfare.
