THE PATRIOTIC FUNDS.
Sir,—l should like you to place on record the very fine manner in which the Auckland Patriotic Association has assisted me during the last few months. I have at times, in your correspondence column, seen inquiries as to how the patriotic funds are administered. The following may interest the inquirers. On coming out of hospital after two months' treatment for throat trouble, absolutely penniless, no work and no friends in Auckland, I, being at my wits' end for shelter, food, etc., went to the Patriotic Association, and after showing my dis- - charge from the army, etc., and answering a few questions, was. immediately given £2, and told to call again in about) four days' time, which J did, and waa given a further £3, the board having granted me £5 in all. This enabled me to get out into the country and findwork. I wish to thank the Patriotic As-.' sociation for the very kindly and sympathetic manner in which they deal* with my case. 1914-1919, N.2:.E.F., 10/2389.
