DEEP-SEA FISHING.
NO SHORTAGE THIS YEAR. LONDON ANGLER'S EXPERIENCE. "My own total catch of 40 game fish, aggregating 10,7561b. in weight, during tho presont season does not suggest any shortage,"'said Mr. H. Whito Wickham, of London, last evening, when questioned regarding the statement of Sir Tom Bridges that tho fish had been much more rare this year than last season. "The northern waters gave me plenty of sport and I have not included in the total the smaller fish, such as kingfish and reremai sharks," Mr. Wickham added. "Off times for fishing are a common experience on all the world's fishing grounds, and even in Scotland, where one maty buy the fishing rights of a salmon stream for £2OO or £3OO, one may suffer the annoying experience of seeing plenty of fish in the stream and being unable to tempt them to rise to tho fly. " Little is known concerning the habits of the deep sea game fish, and it may be that for a few days they were feeding elsewhere. Generally, when I was on the grounds the school fish were plentiful, and where there are school fish one may take it that swordfish and mako sharks are not far away." Mr. White Wickham added that while he could not agree that there had been a shortage of game fish this year —he caught three on Friday, his last day on the grounds—he would support any proposal that the habits of the fish should be investigated by experts.
