TO-DAY'S WEATHER. HERALD'S- SPECIAL FORECAST. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— Cloudy and unsettled weather is indicated, with rain in districts northward of Hew Plymouth aivd Napier. Fair to cloudy elsewhere, with scattered showers. Easterly to south-easterly winds, strong to gale, prevailing in northern areas, aud southerly to south-easterly winds, moderate to strong, ruling southward from East Cape. Rough seas on the east coast of the North Island, particularly northward from Whangarei; mainly moderate elsewhere. The tropical disturbance centred northward of New Zealand has increased in energy, and the extreme southern edge of the depression ia affecting northern conditions. A general improvement in the weather is expected after about 16 hours. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 29.70 in. Midnight, Sunday ..* .. 30.15 in. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A cyclone is centred north-east of the Auckland peninsula. The pressure is still high south of New Plymouth and East Cape, and both east and west of the Dominion. Indications are for moderate to strong east to south-east winds, reaching gale force' at places uorth of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura. Rough to high seas on the east coast north of Ivaikoura, and elsewhere generally moderate, but rising on the Avest coast of the North Island. Moderate southerly winds and seas on the Tasman Sea. Weather cloudy and unsettled, with general rain. Heavy falls on the northern and &ist coast districts of the North Island, but only scattered in Westland and Otago. Cooler temperatures.
