KILLED ON RAILWAY.
INQUEST ON WORKMAN. ;? ACCIDENT AT LYTTELTON. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The inquest was resumed to-day concerning the death of Francis George Donnelly, aged 56, a railway casual employee, who died as the result of injuries received while working an electric capstan at Lyttelton. It was stated by Donnelly's fellow em-' plovees that the rope from the capstan was caught on a truck that was being pulled out by an engine. The hook cajaght the framework of the capstan and then sprang off with great, force, catching Donnelly on the side and knocking him down. The engine driver and fireman both said they got the signal to pull out from a shunter, but had only gone about six or eight lengths when they got a further signal to stop. The shunter who gave 'the signal to pull out said he first made an inspection to see if all was clear - . The coroner, Mr. H. A. I'oung, S.M., returned a verdict of death as a result of being struck by a hook. In view of further proceedings he said he thought it inadvisable to make any comment.
