WAIKATO RIVER "LEAK."

ENGINEERS DISCOUNT STORY. NO EFFECT ON WAIHOU STREAM. [BX TELEGRAPH.—OWN. CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Tuesday. A suggestion that the Waihou River, which passes through Okoroire Springs and Te Aroha, and empties into the Hauraki Gulf not far from Thames, is rising on account of a "leak" in the Waikato River, upstream from Arapuni, is discounted by engineers of the Public Works Department at Hamilton and Arapuni. If is stated that the Waihou River is 12 miles away from the Waikato River, and that the possibility of water finding its way along a subterranean channel from the Waikato to the Waihou is too remote to be entertained. The engineers say they have no evidence that the . level of the Waihou River was higher than was normal at this time of the year.
