CYCLE RACE MISHAP.
GROSE SERIOUSLY HURT. VISITING RIDERS INVOLVED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT."J CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday. The champion Australian cyclists, J. Standen and D. Gray, who arrived in Christcliurch this morning, had the misfortune to meet with an accident on the occasion of their first practice match at English Park to-day. The match was between the two visitors and the wellknown local riders, F. Grose and W. Mackie. The cyclists had ridden about four miles and a-half and Standen was in the lead, making the pace very tast, with Mackie second, Grose,- third and Gray fourth. The pedal o! Standen's cycle struck the asphalt and he fell, receiving severe abrasions on the legs and thighs. Mackie fell over Standen but escaped with slight scratches. Grpse, in an endeavour to avoid the fallen cyclists, collided with the fence and hurt himself rather badly. Gray also had a spill. Gray and Standen were treated at the outpatients' department of the public hospital and discharged. Grose, however, was admitted to the hospital, and his condition this afternoon was reported to be serious.
