FIRE BOARD'S ACTIVITIES.
EXTENSION OF FACILITIES. SITE FOR AVONDALE STATION. ][n pursuance of its policy of extending tho fire-fighting facilities in Auckland suburban areas the Auckland Eiro Board has acquired a section in Cracroft Street, Avondale, where an up-to-date fire station is to be erected to serve the Avondale district, recently absorbed into the board's area. The structure will be on lines similar to tho Point Chevalier station. A start will probably be made with building operations shortly after April 1, which marks the beginning of the fire board's year. The board has made arrangements to control the Tamaki district after March 31. Early steps will be taken to acquire a site on which to build a fire station and to install an alarm system. The foundations have been laid of the new portion of the Remuera firo station, which is being altered and doubled in size. The plans provide for an attractive exterior, in keeping with the residential character of the district in which the station is situated.
