TYBE OF CAE BUBSTS. THREE LOSE THEIR LIVES. ANOTHER SUSTAINS INJURY. WELL KNOWN SPORTSMEN. RETURNING FROM RACES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS • ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, Wednesday. A tragic motor accident occurred this evening and resulted in the loss of three lives and injuries to one other, all four being well known in Dominion sporting circles. They comprised the members of a party who were motoring and the accident occurred about a quarter of a mile south Of Milton. Details of the dead and injured are as follows: 1 Killed. A. B. Armour, , a well-known, retired fanner and racehorse owner. Joseph Ijiggins, recently appointed handicapper to the Dunedin Jockey Club. Thomas Wilkins, owner and trainer, residing at Mosgiel, who died after admission to the Milton Hospital. Injured. L. Q. Kill, secretary of the Dunedin Jockey Club. The party was proceeding homewards by car from the Tapanui races. It is thought that while they were endeavouring to another car going in the same direction one of the rear tyreß blew out. The car zig-zagged across the road and then somersaulted at a dip on the roadside, two of the occupants being thrown out and pinned beneath the rear of the car. Aid was quickly summoned and the men were extricated, but it was found on releasing them that Messrs. Armour and Biggins were dead. Another occupant of the ca:r was lying huddled in the back seat, unconscious and suffering from severe bruises. The fourth was thrown out on the roadside and was also unconscious when he was picked up. Mr. .WiSkins was found to be suffering from a severely-fractured skull and was removed to the Milton Hospitsu, where he died- at about 11 o'clock without recovering consciousness. Mr. Hill was found to be suffering from injuries to the skull, fractured ribs, injuries to one hand and numerous braises. After receiving medical attention Mr. Hill was taken by car to Dunedin and ad mitted to the Chalet Hospital. Mr. Armour was very well known as a racehorse owner in the South Island, having raced horses for a number of years. So far as is known, his colours had not been worn in the Auckland -district. » Before he was appointed handicapper to the Dunedin Jockey Club recently, succeeding Mr. N. Lusk, Mr. Biggins raced horses under his own colours. He had been a resident of Otago for many years and was handicapper also for a number of country clubs. Mr. Hill is very well known in the Auckland Province. Prior to being appointed secretary to the Dunedin Jockey Club about nine months ago, ho was for three years secretary to the Whangarei Racing Club. Before he went to the war he worked in- the Civil Service in many parts of the Dominon. He is exceedingly popular in racing circles. It is understood his wife is at present on a holiday visit to England.
