BOY SCOUT MOVEMENT.

OPPOSITION BY COMMUNISTS. INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Jan. 27. "If we needed additional encouragement, it exists in the recent declaration of war on Boy Scouts by Communists, who recognise that our building up of lovable, sensible citizens is detrimental to their effort to pervert youth," said Sir Roboi't Baden Powell at the annual meeting of the Boy Scouts' Association. The Scouts throughout the Empire, he said, number 582,223, an increase of 61,076 on last year. There were 1,711,643 training in 42 countries throughout the world. Tito Duke and Duchess of York's visit to Australia and New Zealand gave a great .fillip to the movement, said Sir Robert. Scouts throughout the world would gather in England to celebrate the coming of age of the movement at the 21st jumboree in 1929. He read the King's message, saying that the enrolment of millions of youths in the world inspired with high ideals was a triumphal advance toward the promotion of an international brotherhood.
