CRICKET.

SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. . SIXTH SERIES COMMENCED. TWO CENTURIES SCORED. The sixth series of matches in the first found of the Auckland Cricket Association's senior competition was commenced on Saturday under ideal conditions. Fast wickets and outfields favoured Hie batsmen and some good scores were registered. Parnell and University occupied the No. 1 wicket at Eden Park, the • former compiling 267, of which the veteran, Duncan, scored just a century. University has replied with 52 for two wickets. United Suburbs won the toss against Eden and put its opponents in. Both sides had players with the representative team in Wellington, but Eden filled up its eleven and batted a full side. It compiled 224, Postles being unfortunate in just missing the century by one run. United Suburbs lias made a good start • with 48 for one wicket. A very solid innings for 145 by Langridge enabled Ponsonby to run up 388, the highest scoro of the day, against Grafton, which has replied with 27 for cne wicket. At North Shore the local team lias its game well in hand against Y.M.C.A.' North Shore made 214 (Frater 70), but Y.M.C.A. collapsed and was dismissed for 43. Saunders gained the fine bowling average of seven wickets for 17 runs. Fol'owing are details of the play:— PARNELL V. UNIVERSITY. Due mainly to some fine batting by Duncan, Pannell made a, good start in its game against University on No. 1 wicket at Eden Park. Duncan showing a return to the form that won him an Otago representative cup in scoring a fine century. Smeeton took five wickets for 40 runs. Pcnsonby won the toss against Grafton en No. 3 wicket at Eden Park, and taking full advantage of the conditions, compiled the good total of 388 for nine wickets. A place was kept open for N C Snedden, who was in Wellington. Langridge scored his first century in club cricket in Auckland, compiling a very sound 149 before being dismissed.
