TOUR OF DR. HILL.

AUCKLAND PROPOSALS. VISIT TO WAIPOUA WANTED. Arrangements for the Auckland visit of Dr. A. W. Hill, director of Kew Gardens, London, were discussed at a meeting of interested bodies yesterday. Representatives were present from the institute and museum, the Chamber ot Commorce, the Agriculture Department and the Agricultural and Science Club, tiie Institute of Horticulture and the Auckland Horticultural Society. Tentative proposals are that Dr. Hill should arrive iu Auckland 011 Sunday, February 5, and, 3fter visiting Rangitoto, the gardens in the city and the Waitakere Ranees, should proceed to Rotorua on Tuesday. An amended itinerary was drawn up in order to allow of a visit to the Waipoua Forest. It is proposed that Dr. Hill, who arrives at Ohakune at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, should visit a 1 seech forest near Ohakune, then proceed by train to tha National Park, arriving late on Saturday night. ' Leaving the National Park on Sunday morning, Dr. Hill could then proceed to Rotorua by car, inspecting forestry operations and other features en route. The visitor would have Sunday evening and Monday morning in Rotorua. and would reach Auckland on Monday afternoon. A train and boat journey would bo made to Dargaville the same evening. Tuesday would bo spent, in a visit to the Waipoua Forest. On his return to Auckland, Gn Wednesday mol-ning, it is suggested Dr. Hill should visit Rangitoto Island in the morning, and in the afternoon should inspect the Domain and other places of interest in the city. Dr. Hill cculd then return by train to Wellington on Wednesday niglit, leaving the Dominion on Fridav morning. The alternative proposal is to be submitted to the authorities responsible for the arranging of the visit. A committee consisting of the town clerk, Mr. J. S. Brighnm, Mr. N. R. W. Thomas, of the Institute of Horticulture, and Mr. T, 11. Patterson, of the Agriculture Department, was authorised to arrange further details for the visit.

Dr. Hill is at present visiting Nelson and the West Coast.
