BOXING IN MELBOURNE. TROWERN DEFEATS BARNES. (Received January 02. 5.45 p.m.) A. nnd N.Z. MELBOURNE, Jan. 22. In a boxing match yesterday evening. Reg. Trowern, 10st. of New Zealand, defeated Joe Barnes, 9st. a 14-round contest. Trowern forced the paca and won 12 rounds decisively. He knocked Barnes down for a count of eight in the fourth round. Tho towel was thrown in after Barnes was sent down in tho 14th round. Trowern created a good impression. MOTOR-CYCLE RACING. STRATTON LOSES IN SYDNEY. (Received January 22, 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Jan. 22. At the Maroubra Speedway yesterday A. Lemon, the New Zealand motor-cyclist, made his first appearance in Sydney. He ran second in the first heat o!: the race for the Maroubra Silver Helmet. At tlfe Speedway Royal Van Pragg won the inter-Dominion match race against Spencer Stratton of New Zealand. Stratton won the first heat and Van Pragg won the second and also the final heats.
