FIRE IN SYDNEY.
GIN AND WHISKY DESTROYED ENORMOUS DAMAGE CAUSED. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE, Dec. 31. A fire in the cellars of Harbottle and Company, spirit merchants, St. James Place, in the city, caused enormous • damage before it was subdued. Many 5 thousands of pounds' worth of gin and 3 whisky was destroyed. 3 The spirits were contained in huge vats and the firemen, while fighting the outbreak. had to face the risk of explosion at any moment. The cause of the fire is unknown. DAMAGE IN ADELAIDE. FIRE IN CITY BLOCK. (Received January 2, 1J.5 p.m.) s A. and N.Z. ADELAIDE, Jan. 2. f A fire destroyed a block of buildings 1 in the city which were occupied by Wilcox, Moff'lin, Ltd., hide, ukin and wool s merchants, and by S. C. Eylos and Coms pany, wholesale grocers. The damage is f estimated at £20,000.
