PEACE IN INDUSTRY.
FORTHCOMING CONFERENCE. OPTIMISTIC NOTE STRUCK. (British Official Wireless.) (Received January 1. 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. RUGBY, Dec. 31. In an address which he gave at Seaham Harbour, Durham, the Marquess of Londonderry referred to the impending joint conference between captains of industry and representatives of Labour He said he was inclined to believe it was better that the conference snould have been called by a great leader of industry than by the Government. ' The fact remained that Sir Alfred Moncl, with great courage had issued the invitations to the conference. Lord Londonderry congratulated the leaders of the Trades Unions Congress on the manner in which they had responded to Sir Alfred Mond's appeal. He said he felt that when there was such a hearty response from all those who were so closely connected with industry, the labours of the conference must be crowned with success.
