Wihon, the T;»ranski coach, made 76, Clarke 60 not out, Stanley Giddy 28, Kingston© 24 and Hayward 23. In a short second innings Auckland made 99 for no wickets, Butler 68 not out ''including five sixes) and Whitelaw 28 not 3Ut, HAWKE CUP MATCH., WANGANUI V. POVERTY BAY. [Br XELEGEAPH. —PRI'SS association.] WANGANUI. Monday. There was brilliant weather to-day for the Hawke Cup cricket match between Wannanui (holders) and Poverty Buy (challengers). Wanganui batted first and made only 198. The bowling of Bennett, who took bhi wickets for three runs, was in the main responsible for this. The best scows were Kerr 42, "Wood 33, Holland 30 and Treadwell 27. Poverty Bay went to the wickets shortly after the iuncheon adjournment, ancl at the call of time had mside 175 for the lona of six wickets. J, Scholium made 62, Robertson 44 not out. and Bennett 29. BRABIN SHIELD MATCH. WELLINGTON BEATS CANTERBURY [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. 3 CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The Brabin Shield cricket match between the, Wellington and Canterbury junior representatives has been concluded,, Wellington winning by 86 runs on the finit innings. Wellington made 194, (Crook 51, Elliott 19, Hamilton 39. Caldwell 19, Spence 35), in this first innings, and 88 for seven wickets (declared) in the second (Hamilton 15, Bryant 21, Brettis not out 16). For Canterbury, Bean took four wickets for 69 runs and Newton four for 38, in the first inniiags. Canterbury made 108 (Newton 25, Henry 18. Bean, 25) in the first innings and 71} for seven wickets in the second (Ward 3i). Bryant took three wickets for 27 runs. Spence one for 16. Crook two for 53 ana Elliott two for 7, in the first innings. THAMES BEATS PIAKO. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] THAMES. Monday. A representative cricket match against Piako to-day endedjjiin a win for Thames by 8 wickets. PiaLo scored IZ4 (P«o,k. 45), Thames replying with 207 (Cleave 76, Hamilton 46 not out). In the second innings Piako made 118 (Jones 2S not out. Sale. 27, Stack 2G). Thames scored the: required number ox runs at the loss 6f two wickets. Tie bowling honours were equally divided.
