OBITUARY.

MRS. E. W. ALISON. The dei.th of Mrs. Mary A. Alison, wife of the Hon. 'E. W. M.L^C., of Takapuna, occurred yesterday morning after a short illness. Mrs. Alison was bom at Manchester, England, and came to Auckland with her parents, when about threo years of age. Like ha- husjjand, Mrs!. Alison had been closely associated vnth the growth and development of the Devonport and Takapuna districts, vherc, by her warmth of heart and wide sympathies, and by participation in philanthropic and patriotic movements she won i the goodwill and admiration of her fellow-citizenfi- The .'all scope of her private benevolence, however, was known t,? but a limited circle. Throughout the Auckland district, Mrs, Alison was known : as a staunch ana loyal friend, keenly interested in each of the many enterprises with whidb her husband is associated, and a' generous social worker. It fell to the lot of IJrs. Alison to be mayoress of two I separate boroughs—Devonport, of which Mr. Alison was May 01 for yeurs. and Takapuna, of which he was the first ' Mayor. Mrs. Alison is survived by three sons, Mr. E. W. Alison, junior, Mr. E. Ernest Alison, Mr. Alex Alison, and two ■ daughters, Mi*. John Fotheringhari and Mrs. I. J. Mair, while she had 11 grandchildren.
