A HUMAN PARCEL.
LABEL ON A BABY.
POOR MOTHER'S EXPEDIENT.
Surrounding the discovery of a baby boy on tie Newcastle train on December 1 is a strange story. The mother—who had no intention of deserting the child —claimed him from the police on the following day. She had come to Sydney to search for her husband, who had deserted her. She believed that he was in tho city, and that there would be little trouble in finding him. The hunt was unsuccessful, and with little money left, and being forced to carry the baby with her everywhere, the woman was at her wit's end. At length she decided to send tho baby back to her brother at Newcastle, while she continued the search. With an addressed label and a bottle of milk, she left the baby on a carriage seat a few minutes before the train started. No sooner had the mother left the child than a railway official, under the impression .that the baby had been abandoned, removed him. The woman made a mistake, and put tne wrong address on the label, anu it led three constables and women police on a wild goose chase. On the following afternoon 1 the mother recovered her baby from the Scarba Home at Bondi.
