FiVE HORSES GO DOWN.

| THREE JOCKEYS INJURED.

'A racecourse accident that might have proved very serious marred the Trial Purse at Mentone ori December 17, says s. Melbourne message. Approaching the home turn two horses fell, and in quick nuccession three others went down over them. The first to go seemed to be : Honey Dear, and the others that fell were Red Pat, Pitfodels, Master Meadows and Optimo. For a while it seemed that some of the riders were seriously injured. The ambulance picked up the injured jockeys and took them to the (casualty room. It was found that Cooper, rider of Master Meadows, was suffering from Blight concussion, as well as from a dislocated collarbone. S. Tomison, rider of Honey Dear, received a broken collarbone, and A. Simpson, rider of Optimo, Jceceived a cut 011 the chest. W. Scanlon, jrider of Red Pat, and H. Jones, rider ©f Pitfodels, escaped with shakings.
