MONEY FOR TIN HARES.
NEGLECT OF CHURCHES. Tho erase for spending " which affects every class," was contrasted with the financial assistance given by the public to the Church by the Bishop of Southwark, Dr. Cyril Garbett, in his November pastoral letter. " As a nation we spend much more freely than we did ia the days of our wealth before tho war," says the Bishop. " Look at the crowds waiting night after night outside tho cinemas, or at the multitudes who watch greyhounds chase for thirty seconds or so a piece of metal, and who then spend twenty minutes in pouring money into the pockets of the rows of bookmakers who are in attendance." After stating that £70,000 has bden received toward £10G ; 000 required for the erection of now churches in his diocese, particularly in the rural areas being developed by the London County Council, Dr. Garbett says lie refuses to believe there is no money to spare for the needs of the Church.
