BOWLINE TOURNAMENTS

' 'AUCKLAND CENTRE EVENTS.

SECTIONAL PLAY CONTINUED. [THE FINAL MATCHES TO-DAY. Thft inter-section play of the annual bowling tournament of the Auckland centre of the Dominion Bowling Association was advanced a further stage at the Remuera green yesterday. The fourth round was completed, and Lamb (Carlton) is the only " two lifer " still in the tournament. Conditions were ideal, and the green was in fine order. The •tournament will conclude to-day. 1 Allowing are the results: — SECOND ROUND. Bates, Deare, Kilgour, 11. Clarke (Carlton), 20, v. Anderson, Wise, Maher, J. Hosking (West End), 10. Frost. Rowe, Wrightson, G. Hosking (Carlton), 23, v. Harrison, Wheelan, Greening, Taylor (Epsom), 14. Clark, Hawken, Roberts, Ramsay (Do- * minion Road), 19, v. Kennedy, Green, Macklow, Wright (Onehunga), 18. Brittain, G. Gladding, W. Coltman, Lamb (Carlton), 17, v. Munro, Bilkcy, Keith, Armstrong (Pukekohe), 16. Sidler, Buckle, Pearce, Randell (Rocky Nook), a bve. The eame between Clarke (Carlton) ana Hosking (West End) was much more even than the scores indicate. Ihe majority of the heads were keenly contested. A feature of the game was the saving play of the Carlton skip, who on three different occasions turned heads against him to his own advantage. There was little to choose between b. Hosking (Carlton) and Taylor (Epsom) up to the 15th head, when the scores wens TLS-s.il. From this head onwards Hosking scored steadily, and ran out an easy winner. , _ A very even game resulted when Kam*av (Dominion Road) met Wright (Onehunga), onlv one point dividing the pair at the end of the match. " The Dominion Road skip was in good form. Wright ■was one up until the last head, when Rarosav scored two and notched victory. Another one-point victory was gained by Lamb (Carlton) against Armstrong (Pukekohe). 'after an extra head was played. Some excellent bowling was witnessed in this game, the leads being repeatedly changed. _ Lamb also gamed a ope-point victory in the first round. At the end of this round Wright and Taylor, having suffered two defeats, were eliminated, leaving three "two lifers and four " one lifers " still in. THIRD ROUND. Randell, 23, v. Clarke, 21. Armstrong; 21, v. J. Hosking, -0, G. Hosking, 18, v. Ramsay, 11. Lamb, a bye. Much interest was taken by the spectators in the meeting of the "two lifers." Randell and Clarke. The latter secured the first two heads, and then Randell scored 11 points in the next four heads, thus establishing a good lead. On thu seventh head Clarke scored a well-drawn five, and from this stage up to the twelfth head the scores remained practically level. On the next head Randell secured four, and Carlton retaliated with a similar number on the fourteenth head The struggle was very keen after this head, as the scores, all, on the twentieth head, indicate. Randell secured two on the.last head and scored a popular victory. By the aid of thrse fours and a three, Hosking established a lead of six points over Armstrong by the ninth head. The former still maintained his advantage up to the thirteenth head. On the next head Armstrong trailed kitty with a nice shot, and lay three up. The succeeding heads wore evenly fought, and the scores on the twentieth head were 20 all. the Pukekohe front division outplayed their West End rivals in the final head, and Hosking failed with a drive, and a run shot, .leaving his opponents one up and the game. . The Hosking-Ramsay game saw the Carlton skip take the lead on the first six heads. Ho was never seriously threatened, and ran out an easy winner. FOURTH ROUND. Clarke, 26, v. Armstrong, 9. Lamb, 31, v. Randell, 7. G. Hosking, a bye. In strong contrast to the close games r the preceding rounds, those of the fourth round were characterised by run-a-way victories. Consequently little interest was taken in either game. Apparently the contest with Clarke's strong team in the preceding round took the sting out of Randell's team, for it did not give a glimpse, at any stage, of its previous form. On the other hand Lamb's team played great bowls, the front division giving a perfect display of drawing. The team thus had the honour of being the only "two lifers left in the tournament. Armstrong's Pukekohe rink failed badly against the solid Carlton team. Clarke s team was apparently out to revenge its defeat of tho previous round, and it did not give its opponents a chance. THE DRAW FOR TO-DAY. The draw for the fifth round to be played this morning is as follows: Lamb v. Clarke. G. Hosking v. Randell. REMUERA TOURNAMENT.
