SEWERAGE EXTENSIONS. IMPROVEMENT OF STREETS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Wednesday. Steady progress has been made with municipal works in the borough of Hamilton during the year. The sewerage scheme has been extended to include all areas of the borough, and only a few houses in scattered parts are not now connected with the system. The sum spent on sewerage extensions during the year totalled £13,600. Storm-water drainage has been extended to a number of streets and on this work £741 has been spent. Among the most important tasks undertaken during the year has been the construction of a trade effluent sewer from the factories at Frankton to the Waikato River at Whitiora, a distance of 7000 ft. It was a difficult work and cost £13,600.

Street paving and kerbing and channelling have been carried out in many thoroughfares in the town, while easements have been effected at numerous street corners. Nearly £BOOO was spent on street works during the year. A new tip and cover method has been adopted for rubbish removal. All rub Itish is buried immediately it arrives, and the old tips have been covered and left it. a sanitary condition. The slackening of borough loan works early in the year .accentuated unemployment in the town, and relief works were rendered necessary. Several streets wore regraded and a new road was constructed at Maeroa by this means, the cost to the borough being £I4OO. Water consumption in the town has greatly increased and now exceeds 1,050,000 gallons daily Modern plant has been installed for chlorinating the water. A fire-fighting water service has been installed at Maeroa, at a cost of £4OOO. A scheme of extensive alterations and improvements to the borough waterworks is at present under consideration by the council, and will be dealfc with early in the New Year.
