TO-DAY'S WEATHER. HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— Cloudy and unsettled weather is indicated, with heavy and considerable rain, particularly in districts northward of New Plymouth and Napier. Northerly to north-easterly winds, strong to gale. Seas heavy. The tropical storm., although moving very slowly, is increasing in intensity, and cyclonic conditions are expected. Coastal shipping on the east coast is warned, especially in areas northward of Whangarei, where the centre of the disturbance is likely to pass. Barometric pressure will decrease generally, becoming very low in the north. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 29.80 in. Midnight, Tuesday .. .. 30.00 in. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—An extension of the depression situated over the Tasman Sea is moving slowly toward New Zealand. Moderate to strong north-easterly winds, reaching gale force at places may be expected, later changing to southerlies; seas rough on the North Island coasts, elsewhere moderate but increasing on the east coast' of the South Island; weather dull, misty and sultry, with general rain developing and some heavy falls in the northern districts; thunder probable in scattered places.
