SHEFFIELD SHIELD CRICKET. WIN BY SOUTH AUSTRALIA. A. and N.Z. ADELAIDE, Dec. 28. In the second innings of the-Sheffield Shield match against South Australia Queensland made 315 (Gill not out 21). The first innings yielded 256. Bowling: Scott took one wicket for 57, Lee one for 48, Grimmett five for 101, Sangster one for 14.

South Australia, which in its first innings made 471, in its second innings lost two wickets for 101 (Harris not out 42, V. Richardson 57). Bowling: Benstead took one wicket for 28, Gough one for 31. South Australia won by eight wickets. The weather was cool and the wicket assisted the bowlers. Grimmett and Scott soon dismissed the rest of the visitors. After the dismissal of A. Ryan, who had not scored, Richardson and Harris, in a fine innings, carried the total to within a couple of what was required to win.

CONTEST AT MELBOURNE.

VICTORY FOE VICTORIA. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE, Dec. 23, Irr the Sheffield Shitild match against New South Wales Victoria, with seven wicicets down for 586, declared (Wooafull, not out, 191, Scaife 54). Bowling: Everett took three wickets for 66, McNamee one for 118, Mailey one for 122. Two men were i.-un out.

The weather was fine and the wicket good. Wood full forced the pace, but soon lost Scaife, who was run out, and Blackie went to the first ball. Then Woodfull declared the. innings closed. His sportsman-like action, sacrificing the chance -of making a" double century, was applauded. He batted 281 minutes and hit 10 fours. New South Wales, in its second innings, made 152 (Andrews 53, Kiopax 35, Jackson 16). Bowling: Blackie took six wickets for 32, Morton three for 52, Iremonger one for 58. Victoria won outright by 222 runs. Andrews and Kippax were the only batsmen to make headway against the bowling of Blackie and Morton, the partnership adding' 52. Blackie was particularly destructive. Three of his victims went leg before.
