TAKAPUNA BUS FARES.

Sir, —May I congratulate the proprietors of the North Shore buses on an efficient piece of work. Last week they appeared before the Auckland City Council acting in its capacity of No. 1 Transport Licensing' Authority, and representing that their average revenue was Is 5d per mile, obtained leave to increase their fares, with the entirely gratifying result (to the proprietors) that we poor Takapuna residents have to pay 3d for a single section. Now, the average of revenue was calculated at a most opportune moment, to wit, just before the summer rush of traffic. Include all December and January in the figures, and perhaps the average would have been considerably higher than Is sd, a fact which seems quite to have escaped the notice of the city fathers. May I say that I think it rather rough that a body of competent business men should thus take advantage of the simplicity of the members of the corporation, especially concerning a subject upon which they are admittedly not strong. Admiring Onlooker.
